Photo Friday – December 2015

December 4, 2015

On Sunday evening, December 6, Jewish families throughout the world will be lighting the first candle on the Chanukiah (Chanukah menorah), the Festival of Lights.  Influenced by American culture, Chanukah has become the season of gift giving.  And, perhaps, that is not a bad thing.  After all, giving gifts is a sign of love and caring.  On the Festival of Chanukah, we celebrate mankind’s right to freedom of worship and the victory of liberty over oppression.  These concepts have been trivialized and distorted in many societies today.  We pray, as we kindle our candles that the lights of this season will help to spread a reality of brotherhood, understanding and peace.

The answers to our recent “Who Am I?” quiz are as follows: 1) Mel Torme, “The Velvet Fog”; (2) The Mel-Tones; (3) Patty Andrews; (4) “The Christmas Song” (“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…”) Nat King Cole

The Jewish community, both here and abroad, is dependent upon Tzedaka!  Our fundraising efforts reach far and wide and fulfilling the mitzvah of giving charity has become the backbone of providing aid to our American Jewish community and to our brothers and sisters in Israel.  Hopefully you and your families enjoyed a meaningful observance of Chanukah.  Our last photo depicts the candlelighting on the last night.  We pray that the message of Chanukah, the message of liberty, freedom, and the significance of each individual. will bring light to the world.
