Part II – a look at some of our JHSNJ highlights from 2018

Bringing back memories of our trips to the Catskills, who could forget the stops at the Red Apple Rest. The crowd could almost taste the food and remember where they sat after taking a break from a long trip.

Elaine Freed Lindenblatt, a daughter of the owner of the Red Apple Rest, reminding us of those glory days.

On October 28, 2018 we kicked off our “Y days Exhibit”. A large gathering admired the array of historic “Y” photos on display and Jordon Shenker, the CEO of the Kaplen JCC on the Palisade, spoke about the advent and activities and programs of the JCC movement.

The JHSNJ is now featuring an exhibit of photos, documents, the time capsule from the Wayne “Y”, and other memorabilia from the YM/YWHA’s of Northern New Jersey. If people have any memorabilia , photos, etc to share we’d love to include them so please contact us at 201-300-6590.  Visitors are welcome to visit on Mondays and  Wednesdays from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.

In this issue of Photo Friday we will celebrate the life of Morris Joelson, M.D.

Who doesn’t remember Dr. Joelson who had a long and illustrious career spanning over 50 years?

Here is Dr. Joelson in 1915 in his horse and buggy. Did you know we have Dr. Joelson’s black medicine bag here at the JHSNJ?

Dr. Joelson was honored by many over the course of his career and beyond.

Our theme this week is FOOTBALL………..We have included 3 photos of amateur teams from our area containing photos of many individuals that many of us might recognize.  The 2nd set is a representative array of photos that include Jewish players, coaches and executives of present day and yester year personnel of the NFL.  It should be noted that a quick research of present and former NFL personnel yields many more players, coaches and executives than one might think.
