Camp Veritans Reunion –SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2015, TIME 1:00 TO 5:00

LOCATION:   CAMP VERITANS, 225 Pompton Rd, Haledon NJ, COST ten dollars each
The pool will be open with lifeguards. A light snack will be offered. Families are welcome Bring your own chairs or blankets. Bath house will be open but bring your own towels. The reunion is open to Camp Veritans and Teen Trails alumni as well as their families.

Swimming–one of the great joys of the summer and thanks to the “Y”  an all year round sport.  Enjoy your swim in safety!!!!

closingJHSNJ1.pngThe ‘closing’ on the new site of the Jewish Historical Society of North Jersey which will relocate to 17-10 River Rd in Fair Lawn. The closing took place at Valley National Bank in Wayne. Saturday evening begins the observance of Tishe B’Av.  We recall the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem.  ( 586 BCE and 70 CE )   We take time to mourn these events and also take time to acknowledge our survival and the continued chain of our traditions in contemporary synagogue life.

Tiferet Israel rebuilt!!!! It is on Passaic Avenue! Tiferet Israel was originally built in 1890. It is one of the oldest, continuously operating orhtodox synagogues in the United States.

Construction of Congregation B’nai Israel in Fair Lawn, NJ. The bulding has been sold and is now part of the Fair Lawn Jewish Center.

The very beautiful interior of the Barnert Temple on Broadway in Paterson. Cantor Posner on the right and Rabbi Opher on the left. The congregation opened its doors in 1893 and in 1987 moved to Franklin Lakes, NJ.

This majestic building was completed in 1929. Temple Emanuel of Paterson and the Fabian Hebrew School moved in 2005. It opened its doors in Franklin Lakes in 2008 where many of the artifacts of the original Temple can be seen.

We are grateful for the hardwork and dedication of the many women’s auxiliaries.  Through their efforts, the Jewish community has maintained a base for charitable activities for both the American Jewish community and for our brethren in Israel.  We continue to recognize the contribution of women to our Jewish future.
