On Saturday evening, June 11, we celebrate the holiday of Shavuot, called the “Festival of Weeks” in English.  Shavuot occurs on the 50th day after the second evening of Passover.  With great anticipation we count the days to Shavuot, also known as the “Festival of the Giving of the Torah.”  According to our tradition, our ancestors, on our behalf, accepted the Torah with full hearts, proclaiming, “all that the Lord has said, we will do”.   In celebration of Shavuot, we honor Jewish learning.  Before the concept of Bat Mitzvah was accepted, girls celebrated their “coming of age” by participating in a lovely confirmation ceremony at the age of 13.  Reform synagogues continue to have a confirmation ceremony when their students complete a Hebrew high school program which is post Bar/Bat Mitzvah. We hope you enjoy these photos in celebration of Shavuot.  Chag Sameach! (Happy Holiday!)

Another academic year comes to an end!  Remember the fun of the last few days of the school year.  We didn’t do too much work!!!  For those who were graduating, it was a time of sweet nostalgia of time well spent with friends.  Whether we graduated from elementary school or religious school we enjoyed the auspicious event.   Each childhood learning activity is part of the adults we are today.

For many children, the end of the school year heralds the beginning of the camp season. Many kids will soon be leaving either to sleep-away camps or to near-by day camps.  Did you attend a day camp or sleep- away camp?   The memories of those experiences resonant years later.  Did your mom sew on your name tags or use the iron-ons?  Were you ever home-sick or did the activities and the great friendships of camp keep you from missing home?   We hope you enjoy these photos of different camp experiences.
