Daughters of Miriam, 9/22/1940; The following are the children’s names however we do not have the order of the names to match the photo. Jerry Bender, Gloria Gold, Marty Gold, Paul Kaminsky, Morris Cerullo, Norma ?, Stanley Bender,Mildred Kaminsky, Martin Lipshitz, Sidney ?, Max Levine, Marvin Kaminsky, Seymour Lipshitz, Esther Kaminsky –8 are unknown. In the early 20th Century there were many orphaned children in Paterson. A group of women concerned for the well being of these children approached Nathan Barnert. He purchased land on River Street and created THE DAUGHTERS OF MIRIAM, named in memory of his beloved wife. Through his efforts, these motherless children found a home and a nurturing community.

In this week’s Photo Friday we honor the American soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we all hold dear. We also celebrate “Shavuot,” the “Festival of Weeks,” denoting the culmination of the 7 week period beginning from the second day of Passover. This festival celebrates the “giving of the Law” which our ancestors received in Sinai.
In honor of Memorial Day this weekend, we remember the members of our community who served in the armed forces.
